We pulled up in the middle of the night and camped in our car, it was super quiet and no one bothered us. FYI, as we were leaving the next morning we noticed quite a bit of ants on the ground. May be a problem for tent campers but didn't bother us at all.
Tourist trap. Sign says "free petrified wood" you get 1 small piece per car. Prices on "gifts"range from $0.25 to almost $8,000. Parking lot is filled with broken down cars.
Price is too much, way too over protective over their stuff, not even allowing photos!
Prices are a bit high for rocks and other stuff but the free camping area is very nice! Courteous employees and GREAT location for checking out Petrified Forest National Park without paying a lot for camping.
Great facilities (free overnight camping, restrooms, shops & "museum"). They have an incredible variety of petrified wood, fossils and minerals for sale. However, the prices are higher than in the two gift shops within the park. For the same slab of petrified wood, in the park you pay 50-70 % the price of Crystal Forest Museum & Gifts. You will have to find the same or a similar slice though. Crystal Forest Museum & Gifts has a considerably higher range of varieties, sizes and colors. Especially the bigger sized slices can be only found here.
